9:30 am - 11:30 am WORKSHOP A: AUTOMATION IN THE PORTS SECTOR - GO DIGITAL OR GO HOME!

Although automation has been a key trend in the port sector, this industry has been slow in adopting a digital mindset in its business operations. Usually, automation and digitisation comes at a cost and there is always a case to be built where you can demonstrate return on investment for automation.

This workshop will address:
  • How automation and digitisation can improve port operation efficiency and deliver better value for customers
  • How can structured data and advanced analytics in automation make ports and terminals efficient
  • Road maps for port automation - Where to start? What to start with? How to do it?
  • Port 4.0 demands substantial changes in the operating models of the port sector. How can automation help to unlock the full potential of Port 4.0?

11:30 am - 12:00 pm MORNING REFRESHMENTS BREAK

12:00 pm - 2:00 pm WORKSHOP B: REGULATION IN THE PORTS SECTOR - STRATEGISING AROUND THE MANDATE

International Maritime Organisation’s regulation effective from January 2020, will see major changes in the way the ports sector operates. According to the new regulation, the sulphur content in any fuel oil used by the ships cannot exceed 0.50% m/m and this will be followed by all port and coastal states including the UAE.

This workshop will highlight how the regulation will cause disruption in the port industry
  • Price differential caused by the regulation
  • What are the risks associated with noncompliance
  • Environmental impacts governing the regulation
  • Best way to leverage on the regulation

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm NETWORKING LUNCH

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm WORKSHOP C: PORTS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Gagan Seksaria - Director of Global Investments, Red Sea Gateway Terminal
The opportunities in the ports sector are massive and governments are keen to attract investments to facilitate the urbanising population. Complicated trade and regulatory regimes cause political and economic unrest. Lack of developed infrastructure and logistics services for in-time production and consumer supply poses a challenge for the region. Customs clearance, multimodal transport, logistics delays, cost and quality issues etc. have a great impact on trade flows.

Attend this workshop and learn:
  • How does logistics cycle affect business outcomes and economy
  • Direct impacts of vessel size and specification, containerisation, transshipment etc. in accelerating the trade flows
  • Collaborations, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions
  • Importance of dry ports development and inland terminals for trade to landlocked areas
