DESIGN AND DELIVERY OF MEGA CITY PROJECTS

10:30 am - 11:00 am The Italy implementation of a digital infrastructure to sustain social and economical development

Raffaele Gareri - Chief Technology Officer, Brescia & Chairman, The Smart City Association, Italy
This session will highlight the implementation of a digital infrastructure in 28 municipalities located in the north of Italy whose aim is to sustain the social and economical development of those areas. The digital infrastructure provided IoT connectivity covering all the territory with a low power wide area network protocol (LoRa). This kind of connectivity  facilitated the business digitalization both for local governments and private companies producing efficiency and new quality of services for citizens and entrepreneurs.
Raffaele will illustrate business models, public-private partnership models and communication initiatives used to build and manage the governance of the initiative. He will also point out how this experience has provided a good practice to avoid a wave of digital divide for communities located outside big metropolitan areas. Finally he will also point out how this initiative has been partially funded by a contemporary initiative of energy efficiency in public lighting and by private investment of a smart city operator.
